One of the reasons I wanted to visit Bath was its famous Fashion Museum. I generally love visiting museums as I always feel like a keen kid who’s seconds away from learning something truly mind-blowing.
The Fashion Museum in Bath did exactly that. It allowed me to be a child and design an outfit, play Victorian dress up and generally explore how fashion has changed throughout the centuries.
I adored the ladies’ gloves section as it looked truly eerie and haunting – all of these little hands seemed to come at you all at once, saying: Look at me, look at my embroidery, look at my details. They just kept being on my mind even as I left the museum.
Equally, I couldn’t stop looking at some Georgian dresses that were brought from France for the elite to sport. Their width mesmerised me. Personal space was clearly a completely different concept to these social butterflies. I’d love to try one on to experience how does it feel to wear something that’s three times your own width.
I had tons of fun designing a dress and so did Ahmed who even left his copyright sign on his creation. His piece complete with a Prada bag was just… Special. I opted for an understated red dress with a dramatic cape. I haven’t designed for a long while, so I was quite pleased that I managed to complete my sketch within a minute.
I can’t finish my mini essay without mentioning how fun it was to dress up as a Victorian. Wearing a dress inspired by this mysterious era closely resembled weight training. The dresses Victorians wore weighed like 10 MacBooks draped around my shoulders and waist – and that’s without the underskirt.
Should you go to the museum if you plan on visiting Bath? Yes. I recommend the saver ticket – The Roman Baths, the Fashion Museum and the Victoria Gallery all for £20.

Each of these dresses is a work of art! It must have been really fun (and exhausting) to get dressed in the morning in 1856..

It’s so intruiging to watch such old dresses. The concept of beauty and elegance has changed so much over time! But I still adore such uncomfortable but nice lond evening gowns 🙂
