What could be more refreshing than a Mojito (virgin ones totally count too!) in the heat? Inspired by this famous cocktail, I decided it was time for a minty fresh look with an added lemony zest, and by that I mean the yellow pumps in the photos above.

The lady-like elegance of the frock I was wearing from SammyDress was a bit overpowering, it made me feel a bit like Miss Goodie Two Shoes. To add an edge to this look, mint-coloured hair was a must – consider this an equivalent of a sneaky double-shot of rum in your concoction.

How to Make a Mojito

Possibly the freshest tasting cocktail of them all, the classic Mojito always ends up being my cocktail of choice. Though generally bars have cocktail menus the size of War and Peace, there’s something comforting and reassuring about the humble Mojito – even more so than an Old-Fashioned or a Bellini. It’s fail-safe when ordering at the bar, and it’s equally fail-safe when making it at home. YAS! Here’s what we’ll need:

  • 1 and a half of limes, cut into wedges
  • 20 fresh mint leaves
  • 2 and a half table spoons of brown sugar
  • A handful of ice
  • 65ml of white rum
  • A splash tonic – the less the harder, the more the softer
  • A fresh mint sprig for the garnish

Three Steps to a Perfect Mojito:

  1. Put the limes, mint and sugar into a high glass and mash them up. Doing so will get those lime and mint juices flowing.
  2. Drop the ice and pour the rum to taste.
  3. Add soda water to taste and stir well. Garnish with a mint sprig and start sipping!

This cocktail is best enjoyed with friends or loved ones while watching the sun go down. Mint coloured hair is optional, but I’m always up for some company if you’d like to join me.

What’s your favourite cocktail?

In case you missed it, last time I painted myself white.
