Not all beaches in the UK are dog-friendly. In fact it’s through research I found this particular gem which welcomed pups. When we arrived with our dog, Zeus, we were borderline shocked – it was practically empty. I felt like a celebrity on a private beach. Let me put it to you this way – if we turned left and drove 15 min longer, we wouldn’t be able to squeeze ourselves in even on a tiny pebble in Brighton. Here, the world was mine.
While one would think that nature and beaches should be dog-friendly by default, you’d be surprised to learn that a whole lot of beaches in the UK don’t allow pet access at all or have time-specific restrictions. For example, in some places such as West Wittering in Sussex dogs are allowed but only from September until May and banned throughout summer. Unfortunately also known as when you are most likely actually willing to go.
Having said that, not all is lost and dog-friendly beaches in the UK are spots where not a soul would be annoyed about your pup’s never-ending energy supply, as there is a high probability that they too are there because they are dog owners. Here are a few dog-friendly beaches to visit in the UK:
- Sandymouth, Cornwall – lovely sandy beach where you and the dog can run around for hours. Or, let’s be honest – your dog can run around for hours while you sunbathe.
- Berrow, Somerset – a fabulous sandy beach that welcomes dogs all year around. While the warm sand warms your feet, the views will heat up your heart. It’s truly stunning.
- West Quay, Newhaven – this is one of my favourites! Surrounded by picturesque cliffs, enjoy laying on warm pebbles, enjoying the sun. My only advice is to invest in a pair of sports sandals that will enable you to walk and swim – otherwise prepare to squeak and yelp with every step you take, it hurts! (I should know as I squeaked and yelped)
- Durdle Door, Dorset – go there for the scenery, go there for inspiration, go there to feel like you are at a Jurassic era stargate. Honestly, just go there and take your four legged buddy with you.
- Littlehampton West Beach, West Sussex – quaint, lovely and dog-friendly, this beach and the surrounding dunes are perfect for walks and the sea waters for summer dips. Scientists have a special spot in their hearts for this beach as fossils can often be found around. Will your pup find the next groundbreaking archaeological discovery?

Wow that beach looks amazing, look at those cliffs! Here in Canada it can be hard to find dog-friendly beaches too 🙁 it sucks because my dog loves soaking up the sun.
Gorgeous photos and location! Love the richness of color in the embroidered dress, too beautiful!
