Wearing a trouser suit is really liberating. I don’t know why we don’t do it more often. Dresses can be enormously annoying: Too tight, too loose, too much, too little, and of course some are just too damn complicated to put on and take off. A blazer and trouser suit however is something else. Here are 5 things I have noticed noticed about myself when I wear a suit:

  • The complements are suddenly “I love the look” rather than “I love your dress”, which is a bonus in my opinion. The hair, the lipstick, the accessories are all part of the end product and singling out the dress has always made me feel devalued. I see the look-loving complement is one that is directed at me, but the dress-loving one, not so much. I even feel awkward saying “thank you”, as I can’t claim credit for the dress. What should I respond? I’ll pass your comments to Cavalli?
  • Confidence overflow. It’s like knowing how Bond feels when he’s at the bar. I honestly think that the LBD was invented only because the CS (classic-suit, pay attention) was not an appropriate option for a lady. However now that androgyny is finally okay with the jury, I say the CS is just the LBD that couldn’t happen because of how slow we were as the human race. I mean Marlene Dietrich wore a tuxedo/suit and people still can’t get over the shock factor and cult status of a woman wearing nothing more than classic attire. Apparently we weren’t ready, which underlines my point – we were pretty slow.
  • Ultimate comfort physically and mentally. Physically because I can move around as if I am in my gym gear, and mentally because I know there isn’t a complex putting on and taking off process before or after my soirée.
  • Minimalism has never looked so damn good. No shirt? No problem. No bra? No problem. No pants? Also most often not a problem.
  • Selective audience. If I wear a suit, I can guarantee you that no one who can’t hold an interesting conversation is going to approach me. It’s one of my favourite perks of wearing a classic black suit. That segment of the population will be busy chasing leopard-print polyester skirts, giving you peace, harmony and opportunities to meet new like-minded folks. After all, you are what you wear.

  1. I keep repeating myself and replacing this statement, but this really IS my favourite look on you! You wear a suit perfectly: strong, mysterious and yet feminine – and the addition of the Boohoo harness is pure genius.

  2. You wear a suit impeccably: solid, puzzling but then ladylike – and the expansion of the Boohoo tackle is immaculate virtuoso.
