I am going to sadden the wonderful artists behind Dismaland. Although calculated to disappoint, be disproved and just generally diss, I found the experience utterly satisfactory. Yes, as you might have guessed, I am using such learned linguistics to sound like a dick, just as gloriously as Dismaland portrayed our society to be. <\/p>\n

With the eerie music at the faithless fair interrupted only by ear-piercing microphone faults and a child’s voice reminding the masses of their imminent physical doom, and the already demised spiritual one, the event didn’t fail to illustrate other ways where we’ve, you know, fucked up as humanity. Take Cinderella’s carriage accident as an example. Snapped ceaselessly by the paps, and the exhibit staff screaming: Go to your left to photograph the princess’s face<\/em>, her death was converted into a spectacle. I found this to be an absolutely beautifully truthful allegory to the death of Princess Di. I wonder how many people would get it without Banksy spoon-feeding the hint via the name of this brilliant exhibit.<\/p>\n

But we failed as humanity at much more than that, to Death’s joy. I mean, in Dismaland Death gleefully rides a go-kart to the funky sound of Staying Alive<\/em> by the BeeGees. At least he\/she is having a ball. If you too want to have a ball, you have a number of options. For instance, you could play battleship by shooting or crashing into a miniature boat full of helpless immigrants. Or, you could ride the beautiful carousel with one of the horses being hung ready to be chopped for horse meat, reminding us all about the frozen food fiasco. You could also marvel at masterpieces such as Damien Hirst’s pickled unicorn or graffiti advertising salt water, “fresh from crying<\/em>“. I wonder if that comes in the orphan variety, to get that extra salty flavour.<\/p>\n

You will see a bunch of Dismaland reviews online, the majority of them describing the exhibition as “dystopian” as if the themes are somehow distant from reality. I couldn’t see anything dystopian about it. I tried. It seems I live in a different world as opposed to these reviewers. I saw nothing but the representation of the present in this theme park.
